There is something very strong visually looking down on a spiral staircase.

Location: The Vatican, Rome, Italy - Feb 2003

These images were shot over 2 days in Rome, using a Voigtlander Bessa T analogue camera and shot using a Voigtlander 15mm super wide lens and a 35mm f1.4 Leica ASPH lens.

Rome is without doubt one of Europe's most fascinating cities to visit. Some one described it to me as being one huge open air museum. At every twist and turn there are remnants of the rich past right before your eyes. It is the capital of Italy, being the largest city and the seat of the Roman Catholic church. The Vatican is an independent sovereign entity.

The project

My approach is to combine weekend away trips with a mini project to give more meaning to the visit, whilst setting a small but achievable objective. That is, to capture simple every day street scenes that reflect what was going on in the city during those days. It doesn't matter what equipment you choose because better gear does not necessarily make you a better photographer. This is all leading up to the 'one camera, one lens' approach I was beginning to adopt following this trip to Rome.

" Every picture tells a story.”

This remains unfinished work and my plans are to return to Rome again this year to see how the street snapshot photographs I take will reflect any changes.
